Responding to the refugee crisis of the Iraq war, ARDD finds its roots in addressing the displacement of the region's people, and specifically the legal challenges they face as their stories unfold. Jordan is notably a destination of the migrants and refugees in search of safety from neighboring countries in turmoil; Iraq, Palestine, and most recently Syria. While the Jordanian government has accommodated large numbers of refugees, it has added heavy stress onto the already resource-scarce society; and with this reality, the role of non-governmental organizations has grown dramatically.
ARDD's focus on refugee beneficiaries is inspired by human-rights based approaches to providing aid to those in need. Offering legal support to the most marginalized communities and advocating for the adoption of internationally recognized standards of human rights are components of ARDD's response to migrant and refugee crises.
