Iraqi Refugees Crisis: ARDD-Legal Aid Calls on the International Community
Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD) - Legal Aid stressed the necessity of mobilizing efforts to assist Christian Iraqi refugees, where it also emphasized the importance of closely tracking the current Iraqi crisis to identify the needs of the newly displaced Iraqis, whether internally or externally.
It also called the international community to continue its support for the government of Jordan in their tireless efforts to help refugees, praising the efforts of other local organizations, especially «Caritas» that is hosting Christian Iraqi refugees and providing them with all their needs.
It is worth mentioning that «Caritas» has responded effectively in the context of efforts made to save the minorities in Iraq and carried its humanitarian responsibilities towards them by receiving around 1900 Christian Iraqi refugee and giving them all the basic needs. Where «Caritas» has prepared the necessary emergency plan to receive the refugees in collaboration with reception centers and the approval of the Jordanian government, as well as the necessary arrangements with the royal Jordanian air lines to transport the refugees to Jordan on Caritas’s expense, which covers the plane ticket from Erbil to Amman.
The organization has also worked on securing transportation for the displaced Iraqis upon their arrival at the airport of Amman to its partner centers before being transferred to the 10 centers designated to host and provide them with the appropriate shelter, hygiene supplies, food and non-food items, in addition to other basic needs according to standards of the (Isphere) project.
«Caritas» provides daily meals, psychological activities for the children and the parents, group discussions, medical services, as well as recreational activities, and the facilities to conduct visits and prayer.
ARDD - Legal Aid stressed the need to provide protection to those fleeing from violence and persecution, calling on local and international civil society organizations to provide all possible support to the refugees of different nationalities in Jordan at this critical time, especially with the start of winter and what this entails in terms of the rapid growth in refugees needs.
