"The Palestinian Question... Today, and What Next?" - 5th Nahda Forum Session
with Dr. Anis Qasim
The status of the Palestinian Issue and power players’ policies towards the issue, are a near constant flashpoint in the Middle East. At the fifth edition of the “Arab Renaissance Forum” (“Nahda Forum”), ARDD hosted Dr. Anis Qasim, the co-founder of the Palestinian Independent Commission for Human Rights, to discuss the latest developments on the Palestinian situation, the Palestinian conflict, the new American policy and Jordanian roles, and responsibilities towards the Palestinian cause. As a non-governmental organization working in the Middle East, it is ARDD’s responsibility to promote dialogue on topics that face the people of the region, particularly as they relate to equality and justice.
The event entitled "The Palestinian Issue ... Today and What is Next," moderated by Dr. Muhannad Al-Mubaidain - Professor of Modern History at the University of Jordan, was a notable chance to hear Dr. Qasim discuss the problem in Palestine not as a security nor geographical issue, but rather a crisis related to the mentality that governs the state and therefore informs legislation based on the Jewish state for the Jewish people.
Dr. Qasim described the conflict in Jerusalem as not a religious conflict, but a purely national struggle, which was confirmed by the Christian stand with the Muslims in the face of the occupation authorities. Dr. Qasim further called for greater inclusion of Palestinian refugees in the camps; recommending representatives are elected to ensure their representation in any negotiations affecting Palestine and the Palestinians as its rightful owners.
