Improving the Delivery of Justice and Security in Post-Conflict Settings: The Prospect of Legal Aid among Syrian Lawyers

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

The Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development - ARDD is an independent Jordanian non-governmental organization established in January 2010, which operates in Jordan and the wider MENA region. ARDD is dedicated to promoting human rights and combating injustice through its long-standing partnerships with UNHCR, the Open Society Foundations, and Oxfam GB, which have been an enabling factor for our organization’s development and pursuit of our goals. In November 2013, ARDD, in partnership with Oxfam GB, established the Syrian Lawyers Initiative, a project aimed at strengthening the capacities of 60 Syrian lawyers in Jordan in order for them to serve as active players in Syria’s emerging civil society. This capacity- building initiative also provides them with the skills necessary to contribute to the protection of the growing Syrian refugee community in Jordan. This report is a first analysis of findings and results of this project that aims at examining legal aid in the context of Syrian Lawyers in Jordan.
