Jordan’s unique perspective and experience with regard to observing forced displacement caused by regional and international crises and the intricate dynamics between local and international organizations in the humanitarian and development sector has attracted the attention of a group of 15 students pursuing their master’s degree in “Conflict, Humanitarianism, and Development” at the prestigious Bath University which was recognized as the “University of the Year” by the esteemed Good University Guide 2023. These students, accompanied by Katharina Lenner from the Department of Social and Policy Science, met with Samar Muhareb, the director of the Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD), on Wednesday, May 10th.
Comprising a diverse range of professionals already engaged in the field or aspiring to pursue humanitarian careers, the students expressed great interest in ARDD’s comprehensive analysis of migration in the region, with a particular focus on Jordan. They also sought to gain insight into the organization’s notable initiatives since its inception during the Iraqi crisis in 2008.
ARDD has emerged as a pivotal force in providing a humanitarian response to all refugees, irrespective of their background, status, or location within Jordan. The organization has rendered invaluable legal aid services, including assisting individuals in recovering lost identity documents amidst their escape from war-torn countries. Additionally, ARDD offers consultancy, mediation, and legal representation to refugees facing various challenges within the judicial system.
As an active member of civil society, ARDD strives to create meaningful dialogue with authorities and actively contributes to the development of legal frameworks and regulations. The organization’s overarching efforts seek to foster dignity and humanity for refugees, emphasizing the importance of creating a supportive environment that upholds their rights.
