Women played a positive role in the Royal Committee for the Modernization of the Political System and proved that they have the capabilities that qualify them to carry out the various tasks entrusted to them, and their recommendations strengthened women’s political participation and improve the social environment that affects their participation in the future, but the path that women took within the main committee and committees It emanated from it was not a temple of roses, as this required long steps of negotiations and persuasion to make their voice heard and to present proposals and opinions that would enhance the concept of citizenship to be the balance of equality between men and women in rights and duties.
The experience of women in the Royal Committee and their view of work outcomes was under the microscope of the Al-Nahda Women’s Network last Wednesday, through a seminar organized by the network as part of the “Arbatein Meeting” series, in which three women from the committee participated, namely: the former MP, Dr. Dima Tahboub, and the head of the Women Empowerment Committee that emerged For the General Committee, Samar Al-Hajj Hassan, and Abla Abu Alba, the Secretary-General of the Jordanian People’s Democratic Party (Hashd).
The session moderator, Dr. Sawsan Al-Majali, opened the session by invoking popular doubts about the ability of the committee to modernize the political system, which she called the “Reform Committee” to bring about the required change, perhaps in an attempt to provoke the participants to defend the committee and to show how different it is from the previous committees.
