The National Alliance for Combating Narcotics in Jordan, represented by the Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD), participated in the Liaison Officers’ Meeting on following up the implementation of the National Drug Prevention Strategy, held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the headquarters of the Anti-Narcotics Department.

Representing ARDD at the meeting, lawyer Omar Abu Bakr from the Legal Aid Department presented the NACNJ’s report on the achievements accomplished in this regard. In turn, ARDD, as a member of the NACNJ, presented its own mid-year 2025 report, which included detailed statistics on the legal awareness services carried out across various governorates of the Kingdom, along with a series of activities and programs aimed at enhancing community awareness of the dangers of drugs and ways to prevent them.

The National Alliance for Combating Narcotics in Jordan is one of the main partners in implementing the National Drug Prevention Strategy. Its work falls under the first strategic objective: raising community awareness level, thereby reinforcing the vital role of civil society organizations in protecting society from this scourge.

The meeting witnessed the issuance of three key recommendations from the Anti-Narcotics Department to the liaison officers. These included the importance of civil society organizations continuing to play their awareness raising role in combating drugs, the provision of regular statistical reports to the Department reflecting the scale of achievements within the framework of implementing the National Drug Prevention Strategy, and the need to further strengthen national efforts among the various partners. The recommendations also stressed that the work to combat this scourge must remain ongoing without interruption, given the grave danger its spread poses to society.

The meeting also included a review of the recent legal amendments to the Penal Code regarding alternatives to custodial penalties, with efforts to clarify certain legal points and facilitate proper legal implementation mechanisms. The NACNJ, together with ARDD, will follow up on this recommendation and contribute to clarifying the legal aspects in a way that reinforces the rule of law and ensures the enforcement of justice.

It is noteworthy that the National Alliance for Combating Narcotics in Jordan, was established in 2021 as an initiative by ARDD, together with a number of civil society organizations and experts. Since then, it has become a member of the National Anti-Narcotics Committee and a key partner in formulating the National Anti-Narcotics Strategy. Through its field and awareness activities, NACNJ has contributed to enhancing community awareness, protecting youth and refugee communities from the dangers of drugs, and providing social, legal, and health response services that support prevention and advocacy.

At the conclusion of the meeting, NACNJ and ARDD, expressed their appreciation for the efforts undertaken by the Anti-Narcotics Department and all partners, affirming their commitment to continue joint action and to provide reports and supportive activities aimed at achieving the objectives of the National Strategy, in pursuit of a more aware and secure society in the face of the drug threat.
