Access to Justice

This has been ARDD’s flagship program since it was first established in 2008. Beyond service provision, with legal aid offices established in several governorates of Jordan, including refugee camps, ARDD has been engaged with national stakeholders in the justice sector to promote the core principles of justice, namely: justiciability, accessibility, availability, quality, meaningful remedies, and accountability. Since 2017, ARDD has been a founding member of the Justice Forum in Jordan, which serves as a platform to stimulate dialogue with experts, practitioners, and policymakers for the promotion of legislative and institutional reforms aiming to enable access to justice. The program has also engaged in research that has supported policy change and contributed to justice reform, especially in regard to access to justice for vulnerable groups, including women and refugees.

Building on past achievements, Al-Nahda Center’s Access to Justice Program will, through its research agenda:

  • Continue monitoring, documenting, and analyzing developments to keep the community informed about current legal issues.
  • Expand regionally to promote core principles of access to justice in MENA.
  • Advance a national and regional agenda on the right to health. At the intersection between inclusive social protection and access to justice programs, the Right to Health Initiative seeks to promote the legislative and procedural changes needed to ensure that all individuals in Jordan enjoy the right to health care.
  • Reinforce the efforts exerted to combat narcotics in Jordan.
