Women and Youth Empowerment

Youth and women are drivers of change in the Arab world, leading community-based interventions, integrating new technologies in the economy, building a sustainable future, and consolidating democratic processes. This is done despite the regional context marked by increasing economic stagnation and social discontent, which are particularly affecting these segments of the population.

Al-Nahda Center’s research agenda on Gender Justice and Youth Enablement aims to frame the main policies on gender and youth-related areas in development and humanitarian action, identify processes that are driving change in the region, shed light on leading experiences, and provide the youth with upscaling opportunities. The results of the research and its related processes will strengthen agency for women, girls, and youth, and help their voices to be heard. The strategy identifies the following areas of interest as entry points for gender justice and youth empowerment:

• Promoting changes in social norms, attitudes, behaviors, and social systems that will reinforce gender equality and empower and enable the youth. 
• Strengthening accountability in the aid sector on gender equality and youth enablement. 
• Advocating for the reform and implementation of legal frameworks and national policies that will institute and consolidate gender justice and youth enablement.
