In 2017 and in partnership with Durrat Almanal for Development and Training (DMDT), Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD) launched the Forum for Supporting the Justice Sector to identify legal and human rights issues that are impacted the daily lives of the people and the socioeconomic aspects of life in Jordan. The forum steering committee was established later.

Composed of judges, lawyers, civil society actors, community activists, national actors, academics, and representatives from UNHCR and Ministry of Justice, the forum includes participants that are representing governorates in the south, center, and north of Jordan. The forum also includes a member from the community of persons with disabilities. Therefore, the voice and reach of the forum covers the interests of all of Jordan, including rural and marginalized groups.

The role of the forum is to provide strategic advice, and to serve as the primary “advocate” for the justice sector in Jordan.

The objectives of the steering committee were to:
• raise public awareness about the justice sector, laws and regulations in Jordan,
• enhance trust between the community and justice sector stakeholders,
• promote the values of justice, the rule of law and accountability,
• generate a sense of ownership amongst justice sector practitioners, civil society and the general public.

The effectiveness of the forum is depending upon the level of commitment demonstrated by the members and the experience members have had in this role since the establishment of the forum. Hence, the diversity, experience, and dedication of this forum is enabling social dialogue while speaking to the media and meetings.

The success of the forum stems not only from its conception as a platform for dialogue, but also as an embodiment of the core values of driving change from within society. The platform is working towards creating a change in the justice sector with the participation of all segments of society, so that the role of law and its sovereignty are close to us, and we are part of it.
