The Global Network on the Question of Palestine and The Arabic Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD) strongly condemn the murder of Nizar Banat, a Palestinian activist from the West Bank whose entire life bears testament to justice and freedom in Palestine. The circumstances and the outcome of the arrest that led to Banat’s tragic death are deplorable and require immediate action to ensure accountability.
The Network calls on the Palestinian Authority to launch an independent investigation and guarantee that all responsible for such violence are ensured to the justice system without delay. The Network also urges the Palestinian Authority to understand the sentiment of the Palestinians who are taking the streets in occupied Palestine to protest Banat’s death and refrain from the use of force against civilians who are simply asking to see their rights respected and their lives protected. The Palestinian people, especially at this critical time of heightened Israeli violence and provocations since April 2021, deserve unity, solidarity, the certainty of the law, and accountability, especially from those who administer power and should absolutely not fear persecution from those who are purported to represent them.
