We, the members of the Jordan NGOs Forum (JONAF), offer our sincere condolences and solidarity to our brothers and sisters in Lebanon following the horrific explosions in Beirut, wishing the wounded and injured a speedy recovery.
We urge the international and Arab communities to support the relief efforts directed towards the hundreds of families who have been affected and desperately need help to rebuild Lebanon in order to ensure the extension of the basic humanitarian services that are necessary for their resilience.
We also call for ensuring the efficiency of the response by activating the localization of humanitarian action and increasing the support provided to Lebanese civil society organizations, thus enabling them to actively participate in the relief, response and reconstruction efforts. This is essential to overcome the economic and societal losses caused by this shock for all community groups without exception, especially the most affected including women, children, the elderly, people with disabilities, refugees and migrant workers.
We confirm JONAF members’ solidarity with the Lebanese civil society efforts in utilizing the existing international mechanisms in order to draw attention to the needs of the response efforts, and to ensure the activation of the role of women in these efforts in accordance with Security Council Resolution 1325 for Women, Security and Peace, and to support the youth in Lebanon to restore their hope and enabling them to participate in the reconstruction efforts to build a country that embraces their aspirations.
We will stand with our colleagues in Lebanese Civil Society, and work hand in hand towards strengthening our advocacy efforts to ensure Lebanon’s stability and demand the resolution of crises in the region, and together we will work to ensure the resilience of the Arab people and future generations – away from violence and wars.
While we commend the Kingdom of Jordan’s efforts in dispatching the military field hospital, we stress the importance of concerted efforts and the need to provide an opportunity for the participation of Jordanian civil society in the response efforts in order to do everything possible to help our brothers and sisters in the whole region.
May God be with you in this trying time, with our deepest condolences from Jordan.
